I'm not really keen on using Microsoft's ActiveX-based(?) download manager for getting Windows 7 RC1. Anyone know where else I can download the ISO? Would be great if it was a torrent or something.

It is just windows 7 RC... Don't know where the 1 came from. Try google, search (filename):torrents. Personally, I don't know why you'd bother though.

Since you'll be either formatting or dual booting, why not use the downloader? I don't really see the issue here... stop being awkward and just suck it up :P

I don't understand why you would want to do that, it puts you at a high risk of getting an infected or corrupted file!

The download manager works great and you can start and stop it as many times as you see fit, which for me worked great with a capped download amount ISP.

The download manager works fine, and as already pointed out it saves you from potential infected/corrupted/hacked files.

Well not to toot my own horn... on the
How To: Install Windows 7 on an XP or Vista Machine guide, there's a link to a website with info on how to check you're getting the correct torrent. Use at your own risk though!

First you need http://www.giganews.com/ and a news client like newsleecher.

After you got that setup visit.: http://www.nzbsrus.com/index.php

I get up to 162KB/s but average alot less on torrents and 1500KB/s solid on newsgroups.

I downloaded it, from Microsoft, on a Linux PC. No Active-X involved, just a straightforward download.

Only Microsoft, plus part of the download process is to get a key to activate Windows 7. Its really not that difficult, ActiveX isn't a problem. I downloaded Win7RC in about an hour. Whats the worry??

What are You talking about, what Microsoft's ActiveX-based(?) download manager . I just downloaded it like everything else with Flasget. Never even heard of Microsoft's ActiveX-based(?) download manager.

@OP: The download manager is Java, not ActiveX. (At least this is what happened when I DLed using FF)

I've been on microsoft.com checking out the download. You have to have a passport account windows live ID and sign in before you can get to the download. I read when the first beta came out that it was only for their testers, I assume their testers have passport accounts, but I don't. I can't decide if I want to try the W7 beta or not, but I might have to hunt for a torrent myself. I just built a new machine and installed all of my apps on XP. It's working great, not sure if I want to go through all of that again.

It's free, and amounts to an eMail address @ Live.com

MS RC 7 download is corrupt. Check the blogs and google. I gave up after 6 or so tries - all corrupt.

I call BS - I got mine from Microsoft, just like the (hundreds of?) thousands of other people who have. It works perfectly well.

I've downloaded both the 32- and 64-bit flavors several times from MS in Firefox. Never had a problem once, beside the one time I fell asleep and didn't see my dl had finished until the next morning.

Hi, Can you share iso image of the 32 bit flavour? Seems MS stopped hosting it; However, they are providing the activation keys.

This is a link to the beta version which expired last month, not the RTM version.

Any links to any illegal sites offering the RTM will result in action being taken as per the ToS of THG, the beta should still work until march 2010 when it will start to shut down services IIRC.
