Standoff concern

I have and asus vento case and it has built in metal "bumps" where the motherboard screws into the case. If I put stand-offs in, the I/O panel does not line up with the motherboard. Do I need the stand-offs or not? I only ask, because I have had the case for three years with my old build and the motherboard appears to have gone out (computer will not boot and have replaced every part except the mobo and CPU). I do not want to fry another mobo if this is what happened. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

If the case has those "bumps" built into it, then they are acting as standoffs, so you don't need to add any to it.

Thanks for the help. So, does that mean my motherboard just went out and was not shorted by screwing it directly to the bumps?

Probably. There could have been a power surge and blew some capacitors on the board or something. Were you overclocking any?

No, not at all. I had a surge protector between the wall and computer. The motherboard doesn't appear to have any scorching or blown parts either??!

Maybe your PSU went out, borrow a good PSU and try again.

I actually replaced the PSU first thinking thats what went out to no avail.

If those "bumps" were of any concern the old motherboard would have shorted out 3 years ago. When you get your new motherboard make sure the same holds true. (does it look like its going to interfere with anything, etc)
