Windows 7 is not recoganising my cd/dvd

I tried format a cd rw into live file system but it failed. then I tried to format a dvd rw it completed it successfully. after that I changed the disc but it didn't read. IT either reads only one disc after every restart or I have to go to computer right-click hit mange and go to disc management and give rescan discs to read the new disc. Can some one help me to troubleshoot the problem.
