Philips 244E is way too bright after I bought an XFX 5770

This card has given me nothing but trouble.
I bought a XFX 5770 and my monitor got too bright, the colors are over saturated.
I connected it to my laptop and it still is too bright. Auto doesn't fix anything. I can turn my brightness down, but not up. Currently at 25%.
Any tips? Has my GPU damaged my monitor? That doesn't seem possible, but are there any other explanations?

When it is on, but not connected to a pc it says: AGING with red text on a white background.

Try the Catalyst Control Center settings. Do you have the contrast or hue set too high?

I never got to install the Catalyst software, but the problem is the same even if it's connected to another computer with complete different components and has a Nvidia GPU.
