Graphics Card to Widescreen TV

I have a GeForce 5500 AGP with dual VGA.

I want to hook my computer to my 46' Toshiba television(1080p).

Everything works fine, but I can't the tv to show the computer in widescreen. It just has black blocks along both sides.

Is this possible? If not, what can I do to connect my computer to the TV with Widescreen?

If you have the TV connected to a port of the 5500. and the other port to the pc monitor, you should be able to modify both monitor and TV through the nvidia control panel(IE: set custom resolutions along with the natives, color, refresh rate etc), can't give you more advice since I don't remember the settings, and I only did this with an ati.

Yeah, I've tried to create a custom size, but all it seems to do is keep the 4:3 ratio and make it blurry

huh, and with the TV controller can't you change the ratio either? or is it already at 16:9 and shows 4:3 ratio?

Try to have the TV alone connected to the graphic card, and see what happens.

I may be wrong, but after quickly looking it up, it looks like the 5500 doesn't support widescreen resolutions. One specific model from PNY only supports up to 1600x1200, the 1920x1080 on your tv is outside that range if it's true of all 5500's.

That must not be true, since I own a fx 5500 in my old pc, and I used to use it as DVD lector for the tv, and did 1920x1080 wide just fine...
