Hi all!

I am sorry if this is going over old ground but I did look through the threads to see if I could find anything similar but couldn’t.

I am going to build a new system with an i7 920 overclocked to 4GHz. I have a 1Kw PSU and it will have 6GB of DDR3 Triple Channel Ram.

My question is quite simple..........is this setup ok to run the GTX 480 in 2-Way SLI?

Many thanks for all your input............as usual

Many thanks, I didn't want to shoot myself in the foot by buying something that was going to end up causing a bottleneck!

This is a silly question lol. If a 920 @ 4ghz isn't enough nothing is.
Let us know how it works out for you. I'd love to have one gtx480 let alone two of em.. Congrats on the good purchases

Yes, the Phenom II X4 has a lower IPC than the i7 920 to where it bottlenecks high end dual card setups. You can fix this by setting the processor to 3.8-4.0 GHz, which can be possible with the stock heatsink and voltage, depending on the processor.

Thanks for all the replies! The setup runs like a dream and have since added an Acer 23.6" 3D Monitor with Nvidia 3D Vision! EXCELLENT!!
