Hi.

Someone here (a nice guy) recommended G Skill (2x4g) (8 gigs) memory that sells for $129 at Newegg. First of all I'd like to know what TYPE of memory I can use for this board (ASUS P8P67 'vanilla').

I know the GSkill should be good memory, but for someone like me who's not a gamer should I get such expensive memory, or go with something else?

Also, what does 1333, 1600, etc, mean with memory? Sorry, I've been out of the hardware loop for YEARS.

Thanks :)

You need DDR3 RAM. 1333, 1600 and things like that refer to memory speed. If you're used to DDR PC-3200 400mhz, the new set would be DDR3 PC-12800 1600Mhz. It just keeps getting higher.

Any GSkill set will be fair. I would personally go for PC-12800 (1600).

So will any type of DDR3 work, but I think I'll trust your recc. of PC-12800 (1600).

Yes, any type of Non-ECC DDR3 RAM will work. If the speed is too high, it will auto-downclock to the board's spec. If the RAM isn't high enough for board spec, the board will throttle to the RAM's spec. It generally doesn't cause any issue when this happens.

I do multimedia, multitasking and downloading, etc. Would the pc-12800 be better than the pc-10666?
