pulling my hair out :p

- msi 890fxa-gd65
- Patriot sector 5 2x2gb 1333mhz
- AMD athlon II x2 260 3.20ghz
- radeon hd 4870 1g
- win7 32
- no overclocking

getting ocasional bsod referencing memory management and crc/extraction failures on large extractions

when i got this board it refused to load windows if the usb controller was turned on. i rma'd the board and it was replaced with a new one doing the same thing. a beta bios from msi fixed that but now i'm having these issues and there's no new updates.

any suggestions?

i think i may have fixed it.

the optimized default for memory timing was set to "1T"
changing this to "2T" appears to have straightend me out :)

seems like MSI tech support should have supplied me with that information :p

try switching from "unganged" mode to "ganged" in the advanced options for ram in the cell menu

i was still getting bsods untill i figured this out

what "unganged" mode does is give each core it's own stick of ram. this was unstable for me

i'll give a link to the beta bois msi sent me if you'ld like

the issues with the 890FXA-GD65 and the usb controllers along with the black screen is a known bios bug that has been circulating for a while now, newegg forums have a lot of info related to this if you go to MSI website and download their newest bios for this board it will fix the issue. This is not a mobo defect and if you keep RMAing them without the latest bios its likely you will have the same issues over and over again

at the time i rma'd the first board the resources your pointing out didn't exsist.
if i'd have sent it back again it would have been to exchange for an asus or something.

again, what fixed the crc failers was to change the memory timing from "auto" to "2T", and the bsods were fixed by disabling "DCT Unganged Mode"

both settings are in the advanced dram configuration settings from the cell menu

if i could select this as the best answer, i would
