Which way is better? 2x8 sticks or 4x4 sticks and why?

I wanna get 16gb of RAM and I don’t know which way I should go for: 2x8 sticks or 4x4 sticks.

They have a different timing, which one is better and NOTICEABLY faster in gaming, editing, and the overall performance?

My CPU is i7 3770K and the MOBO is ASUS P8Z77-V Pro.

Usually 2x8 is better because you are able to upgrade in the future without waste. That said, the 4x4 kit has better timings. You decide which is more important now.
