Antec 1200

Looking to build a LAN PC down the road with a much smaller case, as the Antec 1200 gets heavy going to LAN parties :)

I have a CM-RC-690 that is now doing backup duty until it gets a 128GB SSD later this year. My primary has become a Lian Li PC-Q08R which is a neat little case; would be great to take to LAN parties.
I did a slide show of the build and put it on YouTube, but I don't have the link at work, and the site is blocked here.
July 1, 2010 6:44:21 PM

did you go through that link to see mine?

Haf 922 with custom Gunmetal Interior :D

What do you think guys?
July 1, 2010 9:26:53 PM

A major improvement over the standard haf interior but I still don't like the drive bays are so far from the mobo and that the psu is not separated. It makes the cabling much more visible nad ugly.

Nice build btw ;)  I have the same screen :D

Cheers mate, yeah cable managment is pretty tough, you shoud see behind the tray and in the optical bays! Doesnt help that i've got a fan controller, so that adds even more cables!

24" BenQ LED lit screens are sweet, i've got another on order! For the price, they are outstanding!

I know those benq's really rock. They may not have many connectors but I mean at a mainstream LCD price they really are a fantastic buy.

I'm probably going to add two more aswell for 2d surround

Who needs connectors? DVi pretty much will run down into anything.

3 screens... Did someone say Eyefinity? :D

I know connectors are just for difficult people. lol

And yeah I'm aiming for 3 screens(Not eyefinity since I've got nvidia but that's bassically the same thing). So now I have to go on a diet and scrape some money together so I can afford it ;)  I've got a 2 month holiday so I should be able to get it together.
July 1, 2010 9:45:47 PM

Where did you guys buy your 24" BenQ LED monitors? I don't see them on newegg or amazon.

Why you seeing drills im my future? Ok the case most would say is budget iv seen alot of cases its not flimsy like the review states its light plastic material,Alu material simply to reduce weight i think its the best one they ever made so far.
July 2, 2010 11:34:00 AM

I see drills and duck tape on most things I look at hehe, I'm a tinkerer by nature.

The reviewer there wasn't very impressed by the case, Whereas I saw potential in it, sure theres a few niggles but its a budget case, one I'm building my Gf's pc into is 2 for 15 quid lol.
I like the look of your case as is, All I meant was that I would mod it if I had one :)

Moto
July 2, 2010 11:48:28 AM

Yeah there is potential the silver front is actually steel, its got vents all round my case came with two LED lights instead of the small 80mm,the front 120mm is LED not plain.

I may change all the fans to LED multi colours, the top of the case is grilled.
nice design good airflow

people just say stuff to put people off of raidmax they have improved and i like that case,
won't mod it to much looks good on its own,lol

what would you do?
July 2, 2010 11:49:50 AM

Take into account with my case i went budget so i could wait a bit till prices drop not a bad budget case in my opinion
July 2, 2010 12:04:51 PM

Top of the case is pretty much off limits to any chopping I'd say cause of the grill type fitting, although you could figure something to do on it if you were determined I'm sure :p
If I was building in that case?
Chop out the two rectangles behind the Mobo for a bit of passive airflow and C.M. options
I'm seeing plenty of space in the window for fans, you could fit 3 more 120's in there and still have a good view of the internals or go fullwindow with a total of 6x120's
Bottom fan in front of psu
that hard drive frame, hmm, I'd cut it down and screw the slots I needed to the bottom of the 5.25 drive frame or remove altogether and find somewhere else for the hd to live
Thats bout all I can think of now, but I'll probably come back later and say 'oh, what about.......' :p

July 2, 2010 12:53:35 PM

I was thinking three 80mm led fans in a diagonal fashion on the glass panel so there is view of whats inside, get a huge fan for the other panel, got a micro atx board so no problems with space regarding hard drive bays and it kind of fulls the case,it must look like a monster,so keep it simple with a few mods that will make the difference
July 2, 2010 9:41:50 PM

Three diagonals should look nice, get crystal framed ones if you can, look better than black imo on a window mod and yeah, if you cut out the mobo rectangles,, a 200+ fan in the other side panel would keep the mobo nice and cool.

July 2, 2010 10:10:00 PM

Other than possibly a bigger window in the side I wouldnt really want to do anything to that, it look funky as is :)
but if I had one sat here with me, I'd be looking at things to 'fix' :p  hehe :)

You have 2 cases? Or was your desk pic with an old case?

July 2, 2010 11:40:46 PM

Also I see you modded the HDD cages, whats in there?

And do you have any heating probs with your HDDs mounted where they are?
July 3, 2010 12:02:02 AM

The pic of the 'surround' was with my old (4months old) Antec P193, thing was a ******* nightmare, no room for an internal rad, no chance of water cooling, could not fit 'BIG Air' in it and had to use a H50.

Much to contray beleife, HDDs DONT get hot, they run at room temp and never warm to the touch.

Its actually built from 2 Antec 1200s, (ordered 1, nicked the drive cages, fans, grils, filters and fan holders) then sent it back as incomplete.

Inside the front bottom 9 5.25 bays is a 360 radiator mounted vertically, the only'modding / cutting / drilling' that was required was a slight cut of one of the fan holders to allow the WC barbs to fit and a screw hole to secure the bottom res mount (the gpus got in the way).
July 3, 2010 12:04:07 AM

other than that, i used 120ish cable ties and took about 20hrs to build (including stripping out of the antec P193)

The 'extra' fans/grills/holders are then mounted backwards (remember to change the fan around) and screwed in without the drive cages. The HDD are screwed in using 2 screws each that line up perfectly with the holes pre drilled in the case.

So you're using the stock 120mm 3 intake fans on the 1200 to cool your RAD?

Thats a damn Shiny Rig man :)
