The absence of dispaly is ususally cause by the following:

1. Defective or incompatible RAM
2. Short cirucit between mobo, add-on device(s), and/or case (doesn't really apply to laptops)
3. Power button switch circuit open
4. Failing or defective GPU
5. Bad CPU or thermal paste is dried up

Download and burn MemTest86+ v4.2 and let the test run for at least 8 passes. This will test your RAM for errors. If any are found, replace your RAM.

You can easily rule out power button circuit failure if it illuminates.

One of the more common suspects for display problems is the GPU, or video card. The easiest way to determine this is by using the on-board VGA. If your laptop doesn't have an add-on GPU, test the display adapter (VGA) by connecting the laptop to a monitor.

Finally, the CPU can be dead, but the system can still power up. If your laptop has a CPU access panel, carefully remove it and check the CPU. The heatsinks on laptops differ from their desktop/workstation/server counterparts. The heatsink should look like a long metal shaft that leads heat away from the CPU. If possible, remove and reapply thermal paste.
