I want to build an HTPC and I have an old AMD Phenom 9550 2.2GHz quad-core CPU laying around from an upgrade. I was thinking of pairing it with a Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H motherboard for an inexpensive solution. What do you guys think? Does this CPU have what it takes to deal with HTPC duties? What about the MOBO? Is there a better solution out there?
Absolutely it does. I did the same thing with my HTPC. I kinda cannibalized parts from old builds to make some kind of frankenputer. It does great, and what you've picked will function extremely well for its capacity.
Also the 785G has the 4200 integrated graphics meaning it will really have alot of power as far as integrated graphics go. Just remember to use DDR2 memory for that motherboard
Enjoy your build, if you have any questions let me know!
