Cannot play HD files properly

when i play an HD video except in window media player..., the video continuously starts & stops. What is the problem???

i have ..:- pentium 4 1.8 ghz, 1gb ram, nvidia geforce fx 5500, windows xp

hey xbeater i am fully devoted of having some computer information. i want to start with graphics topic. will you guide me??/

yeah thats a bit low. To play HD video 1920*1080p it takes quite a computer. Minimum I believe is somewhere in a dual core, and definetely a stronger video card. Ram helps aswell.

P4 at 1.8 ghz is really not going to do it.

but the video runs well in window media player.

yes I also had a similar issue:

On my netbook: 1.6ghz atom, 2gb ram, GMA950, it ran fine in media player, but other players had trouble.

I don't know maybe windows media player is built with better hardware acceleration, or some special codec or something...

I never bothered with anything other than media player since windows 7 since it plays everything.

i want to learn something about graphics(cards,gpu,etc.), please guide me ... like asking me to read a particular thread(which u will tell me, which one to read).
OR
help me in any other form... i just want to get some knowledge about that
