Hi all,

I have an ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe mobo with a C2D 6600 running at 3ghz on air and stable. I'd like to know if there are any good CPU choices for doing a soft-upgrade.

I have what I think is the manufacturer's list of supported CPUs on the link below, maybe one of you gurus could take a peek and give me your opinion.

Also, I've read that people are having problems running Quad cores, I'm not sure what other good choices exist.

Thanks.

you will need to upgrade your bios if u want to run a quad cpu.

Thanks jimishtar. However I don't necessarily want to upgrade to a quad CPU. I'm looking for the best CPU for this older mobo.

I've never upgraded the BIOS simply because I've never had a reason to. I'll definately be upgrading it if there is a CPU worth going to.

The e6600 is a very good processor for the 975 chipset. Notice in the link ASUS has put a note about using 45nm CPUs on that chipset. The original BIOS was released well before 45nm C2D/C2Q came out. A 65nm C2Q6600 would be ideal if a quad is what you are looking for. I have the e6600 runing on a 965 and it runs great. Stick with a 65nm chip on that MB and the e6600 or Q6600 are a great solution.
