What are you planning to use it for?
For gaming you might be better off with the Phenom II X4 965 BE which would be a lot less expensive in price.

For gaming the video card is much more important than the CPU. You have a pretty fast dual core there.

The Phenom II X4 965 or the Phenom II x6 1055t

PII X4 955 or X4 965. Buying hexa core CPU for gaming is a waste of money.

isn,t the x6,s just like the x4 phenoms, with just a couple more cores., and otherwise everything is the same on the x4 and x6,s

Yes the only difference is the extra 2 cores but slightly higher L2 cache. The 6 core Phenom II X6 1090T is just too expensive (unless one needs it for certain applications).

To the OP sorry I didn't respond earlier.
Here are some benchmarks.The first 2 will show % in change between your Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and the 965BE & 1090T
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/28?vs=102
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/28?vs=146
Now look at the benchmarks (especially the gaming ones) between the 4 core 965BE and the 6 core 1090T
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=146

So for most gaming I would agree either the Phenom II X4 955 BE or the 965 BE (which is slightly faster) would be a better and less expensive choice (why waste money on something you will probably not need). The saving of money can go towards your graphics card instead.
