Sonicview monitor problem

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Sattelite desktop which is hooked up to a View Sonic monitor.

I have tried the various options under Display - The View Sonic VA912 requires 1280x1024 so I have set this in the display.
The picture showing up on the Sonic monitor is just the desktop photo chosen - but none of the other information and symbols which show on the Toshiba Sattelite desktop.

under display properties you can set the view sonic to be either a extended display or your primary display, or you can disable the laptop screen to make the viewsonic the primary by default

he primary display will have all your stuff on it, to use the extended display you have to drag something from the primary display over to the extended
