Router with bad Internet port

I have a Lynksys WRT600N wireless router with Internet/WAN port that stopped working. The other 4 wired port and wireless part seems to work fine. So I have 2 questions - does anyone know how to fix this and does it make sense to use this router as a network switch + wireless access point in combination with a cheaper wired router connected to my cable modem?

  1. You can certainly use it as a switch, WAP (wireless access point), or both. I would never throw it out!

How do you know the WAN port has stopped working (as in, it’s broke, which you seem to imply)? Are you sure it’s not just a configuration error? Was it working for some time and then suddenly stopped? I wouldn't say it never happens, but an actual failed WAN port is rather unusual.
