Hi..
I am looking for a Graphic Card..though m not into much gaming and all..but now I want to play few old and new games.
My system specs are
Core2Duo e8400 3Ghz...4gb Ram ..500Gb Hd
Monitor is 17" LCD
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

I have researched few benchmarks and stuff..and I guess for now..I am liking ATI hd 4890 as it is good in performance and within my budget. Its not a dx 11 not a big deal for me...cze i guess those games will be backward compatible like supporting dx 10..nd all..nd not many titles for it now...dx11.

And if you know a good not very high priced dx 11 with performance of 4890 and almost the same cost please tell me.

I ll be buying a PSU (650 or 750Watts) branded.

No no, for your low resolution(17") then HD4890 is just overkill...
What about HD5770?
It good for a long term.

What is your motherboard? SLI or CF capable?
If not, just 500W of high quality PSU is enough... :)

Hi :)
I would recommend getting a 5770 instead, although its slower than a 4890 but for 17" monitor,a 5770 is more than enough,it also runs cooler, quieter and packs newer techs like DX11,Eyefinity etc

Thank you :)

Oh okays I ll check it out..but I hope..it doesn't perform so nd so in dx 10 or 11 games...dx 11 is not my main concern right now..:D  if it plays it ..it shld play it good..I know 4890 would play it fine...but like you expert people are saying..its useless..to buy for tiny monitory..i ll think about it..
Thankyou :)

Well for your resolution which i would think its 1280x1024,a HD 5770 is more than enough, that's why i recommended it over HD 4890

+1 5770. Also, 4890s are kinda hard to find right now anyway, and 5770s are about $40 cheaper. Just get a 5770.

+1 on ATI 5770. At your resolution the 5770 is probably overkill as it is. It can play games up to 1920x1080 in some cases (maybe not max settings). Unless you plan to purchase a new monitor (something 1920x1080 or higher) there's no point in getting anything more powerful than the ATI 5770.

Now, if you purchase a better monitor, then you might consider a faster GPU so you can get better image quality and keep higher FPS. :)

The difference from a 17" 1280x1024 and a 22" 1920x1080 is spectacular if you ask me.

Thanks everyone :) ..5770 benchmarks seems to be good..and what about 5830? if maybe i go for a 19 " monitor in a few months or so..
And what are the current prices of these two cards...thankyou :D
May 26, 2010 1:57:56 AM

5830 isn't very good in the value department.
The performance is about a 4890, but it costs ~40$ more.

The 5830 is only a little better than the 5770 performance-wise, but costs a lot more... about $70 or 80 more... It's definitely not worth the price increase. Should be priced at about $200 for its performance.
The 5770 really is your best bet. It can handle a 19" monitor (1680 x 1050 I believe) no problem.

That's right^ HD 5830 doesn't have a good price/performance ratio,a 5770 is fine for 1280x1024 and 1680x1050(even for 1920x1200,it can play games fine but you have to lower some some settings down)
May 26, 2010 12:59:12 PM

Oh so can I expect 5770 to be playing crysis at a decent Frame rate and high/est settings(at my resolution) and is it doing good with dx 11 games? And just out of curosity I have googled and found out that dirt 2 is dx 11 game too. So is it like a very 'mindblowing' thing if u see this game running on dx 11 mode after dx 10 mode..how big is the difference between dx 11 nd 10.
and thankyou everyone :) .
May 26, 2010 1:20:30 PM

Dx11 is quite nice compared to dx9 or 10. Dirt 2 does play in Dx11. (F1 2010) when it's out will be a DX 11 racing game as well.

+1 to the 5770. I have two.
May 26, 2010 1:25:09 PM

oh okays..:) ..but on few reviewing sites they have still put up a question mark on 5770 with dx 11 games...

Can you clarify more ?
May 26, 2010 7:33:38 PM

Well most of the people on other sites are saying that its a MID_range card...m confused over it...Is it powerful enough for most of the games today and the upcoming dx 11 games..? Just want to know..:)  thanks

No one knows about future games, but for current DX11 games like Dirt2,AVP.... it will work great for your resolution

Because of your low monitor resolution (17" tend to be 1280x1024 resolution) the ATI 5770 will perform perfectly fine. If you were to buy a higher resolution monitor, then the card would have to work harder. For DX11 titles @ 1920x1080 or higher I'd recommend an ATI 5850 or ATI 5870 (or a GTX470).

However, because you'll be playing games at 1280x1024 there's no reason to go that high end.
May 27, 2010 2:59:54 AM

oh okays :) , ..So I ll be buying 5770 this week :D ..any specific brands for it? like XFX or evga..? and I have read some or most of the gamers 'overclock' these cards...what about it? is it risky? thankyou :)
May 27, 2010 3:04:41 AM

The dimensions of my Cabinet are 13.7 x 6.8 x 14.7 inches ( Micro atx form factor)...so will this card fit in it perfectly?
May 27, 2010 6:51:44 AM

and will the 5850 can go in it too? or do i need a new cabinet

EVGA doesn't make ATI cards, brands like Sapphire,HIS,XFX are all good.
And by OC'ng it depends on how much you OC,but overall the performance gain isn't huge.
And as for your case, can you just tell us its model ?

May 27, 2010 3:09:31 PM

Well the picture doesn't exactly show how much space it has but i think it should be fine for a HD 5770.
Are your choices limited only from that site ? or you can buy cases from other manufactures as well ?
May 27, 2010 7:22:55 PM

Well I don't know many brands that are available in india thn this one...but U tell me..the few good ones..
And if i get a 5770 ( msi or his or xfx) one..where will i get the latest drivers? from their site or amd's site. Should i download all the latest stuff from the sites or from the CD that comes with it. And what softwares should i download with it. am sorry i dont know much..
and will I be able to max out every game ( keeping crysis as an exception) with this card?

Best solution

As i said brands like XFX,Sapphire,HIS are good, get which one that's available
and for drivers, always download the latest drivers from AMD's site, the driver which come with the CD are mostly older than the latest drivers from AMD
And as i again said before, you can max out every game(including crysis) on 1280x1024

E8400 is still a good choice for gaming and 4GB RAM is quite enough,so you will be fine :)
