Hi All,
I have a problem which is driving me up a wall. I have a HP Pavilion
zd7010us laptop with 4 USB 2.0 ports. The laptop is running Windows XP
Home Edition with Service Pack 2 installed.
Recently, I bought a Linksys Bluetooth dongle. I installed the
software then plugged in the dongle when prompted to do so. Everything
installed with no errors. I turned on Bluetooth in my Motorola V600
GSM/GPRS cellular phone. Make the phone discoverable and click on the
Bluetooth add device button. The phone is discovered and listed a a
Dial-up Network device. When I try to discover it as a Personal Area
Network Device, it does not get found.
Today I went back to CompUSA and bought a DLink Bluetooth dongle with
the identical result.
I know the phone works as a GPRS device because my Tungsten|T3
connects with it know problem at all.
Why can't I get my laptop to discover the phone as a GPRS device?
Ciao . . . C.Joseph

A shot in the dark.
Can you not query the bluetooth phone to find what services it offers? Maybe
it is under a different name than PAN.

Hi Terry,
My phone doesn't give you the option to find out what services it offers.
The reason why I am confused, is because with both Bluetooth adapters,
It only comes up as an analog modem. Even there it has problems. I can
try to have it dial, but with both I get an error 678. The phone
number is right and does work if I attach a landline.
If it didn't work so well with my Palm Tungsten|T3, I would think it
was a defective phone.
I went to the Motorola web site, I they do not offer and special
drivers for the V600. I did have to chose drivers for the V600 on the
Palm and used the driver for the TP280i.

Does the bluetooth on the computer offer an option to discover what services
are offered by a bluetooth device it is talking to? I thought I read
something similar to this approach with bluetooth on ppc called "explore a
bluetooth device".

Hi Terry,
Neither software offers that option. They both offer the option to add
a device to the PAN. It just never discovers the phone as such a device.

Hi Festo,
I found out that my mistake was trying to set up my V600 as a pan
device. Someone else here told me the GPRS was supposed to be done
inside of [Dial-up Networking].
