Hi,

Just bought an external hard drive to backup 500GB of photos, documents, etc.

I plugged it into my USB 3.0 slot on my ASUS P8P67 LE motherboard.

It didnt read it at first, but I installed the 3.0 drivers and it read it. I'm using a 1 TB WD external drive.

I have an i5 2500K cpu and 8GB memory on windows 7 64 bit.

My internal hard drive is 1TB.

Why is it only transfering at 17 mb/ s?

This is incredibly slow, and it is definently 100% in the USB 3.0 slot on my computer.

Thanks

Hi Minneola,

I would suggest to make sure the driver is up to date from the motherboard manufacturer's website. If that still doesn't work, it may be something between the external device, and your motherboard.

Do your USB 2.0 ports produce exactly the same result? Otherwise, if the USB 2.0 ports have a greater throughput, then this may suggest that there is a high error rate on the USB 3.0 ports.

Have you confirmed that the drive is actually OK, ie no "slow" sectors? A HD Tune read benchmark graph should be a flat line, with no appreciable dips in transfer rate.
