Ix or three Memory Modules

Last response: in Motherboards
Share

For three channel memory which would be best: Three, two gig modules (one per channel) or six, one gig modules? Also, if the modules run at 1.65 v. can this be provided in the BIOS without selecting other component, such as CPU, voltages?

There really is no performance difference between 3x2GB and 6x1GB modules. However, for future upgrading sake, get the 3x2GB kit.

And yes, you can select the DRAM voltage independently of other settings. I would recommend going with a 1.5v kit though.

I'd go for 3x2GB, that gives your future space for add another 3x2GB if you want.

Regarding the voltage, yeah, you can set the 1.65V without change any other setting.

ll six DIMMS draw more voltage than three and, from what I have read, sometimes need a core voltage boost to remain stable.

2 sticks or 4stick should use pretty similar voltage since all RAM is rated at same voltage. When you need more DRAM voltage is because you are using overclock (changing specs of RAM). Try at stock voltage, should work without problems.
