I purchased a new headset recently with a built in microphone, it was working fine for a week or so then when i tried to voice chat with a friend through steam as soon as either of us made a noice all we would hear is static, we both think the problems on our end, i just tested my hardware through the wizard and i kept hearing my voice echo. However, and heres the weird part, me and the same person tried to chat through yahoo and it was fine. No static or echo. I'm running off of XP with the onboard sound card. Any ideas? Help is appreciated

Solution
Google on your problem with the keyword 'steam' and/or look in the steam forums.. This is mostly an exception error while using voip services when using steam..

Well, it it all work fine through Yahoo, it must be a problem with Steam. Or maybe steams config, I don't know, I've never used it. Anyway common sense says it's not a hardware problem.
