Can anybody comment on the likelihood of a Fermi-based competitor to the 5750/5770 being available in the near future? I've heard some news about the GTX465 debuting soon, but nothing in the ~$150 range.

Not sure, according to Wikipedia the 465 is supposed to come next Tuesday. AS to the $150 range I would say wait for a while, Nvidia is barely getting any good yeilds on the 480s, as the 465 is just a binned 480. Anything is your price range will need to have a different core or something from last generation.

There is talk of a GD104 as well as GF106/108 chips being released this year. What i have seen ranges from June/july to september/October.
Nothing concrete though as far as when but they are coming.
The GF 106/108 are the ones that you are talking about. Give GF104 etc a google and see what comes up.
