Assuming you take $200 for a nice monitor... that leaves you with a max of $500 for processor/mobo/GPU/case/RAM
It's easy enough to find a decent basic case for $50 shipped... so that leaves you with only 450 for the rest.

Id recommend AMD Phenom II X4 925 ($130), GIGABYTE GA-M68M-S2P (50), OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2gb - $80 after rebate) - ASUS EAH5750 Radeon HD 5750 1GB ($115 after rebates). after tax and shipping your lookin at 400 there. If you can afford it, i'd go with a motherboard more in the $80 to $100 range

Also wanted to note that ZipZoomFly often has great deals... sometiems $5 t $10 dollars cheaper than NEWEGG. but basically look for parts with rebates, its the best way to go... just make sure you send the rebates in obviously!

Ooh, I just noticed today's ShellShocker:
MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD Motherboard +
AMD Phenom II X4 955 for $258.
Would that be worth putting in a system like this?
