Usb flash driver 2 0 for win 7

Hello,
whenever i add any external hardware(like pen drive, modem etc) through usb, my os(windows 7) fail to install that driver...// i hv change my os to windows xp, still it happens. My antivirus is mcafee. what to do...? is there any laptop problem...?

Does the USB pen drive & modem work in other computers?
If yes I think you are looking at laptop hardware problem.
