I just purchased an HP Pavillion zv5300us. All works fine except for
the internal microphone which is silent. I have gone into control
panel and done all of the sound tests. The voice test shows no sound.
But when I plug in an external microphone, the internal microphone
works. In other words my voice is heard through the internal
microphone. As soon as I unplug the external microphone, there is no
more sound from the internal microphone. Is there some setting I am
missing? Thanks in advance for your help.

I've got a zd7160us Pavilion and to my knowledge there is no microphone in
mine. I need to use one of those plug-ins as you did. Not really crazy
about the Conexant sound card either. Very noisy card!

I have the same problem with the Zt1150 notebook. I see the internal
microphone (it's right above the LCD screen, correct?), but I can't seem
to get it to work. I don't have an external mic to test with though.
