hey everyone,

with the help of one of my cousins who works with computers and builds pcs for friends and family, i got a list of components that i want/need for this build.

i wanted this computer to be well rounded for multitrack audio recording and editing (needs to be quiet) and still somewhat powerful enough for some gaming (valve games, assassins creed, mass effect, cod, etc.). im also wanting it to be small enough to lug around if neccessary (micro atx case). i plan on having win7 and ubuntu dual booted as well as a data drive for backups and large recording sessions.

heres the list of components through newegg:

i want to keep the build under 1500, because after that it'll become way too expensive.

for the cpu, im not sure if i want to go with the phenom 2 quad or an athlon 2 quad. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

any suggestions on different hardware and accessories that might cut costs or improve the build will be greatly appreciated.

You may want to either scrap the 10k rpm drive or switch it to an SSD.

That graphics is a bit weak for new games at Full HD.

btw, you're getting a lot of extra stuff for this

Change the monitor. You want a 1920 x 1080 resolution really, once you have that you only need to upgrade when it breaks.

I agree with Mark, get rid of the 10k RPM HDD, then replace the other HDD with the Samsung Spinpoint F3 for a great performance HDD. If you really want a SSD for fast loading then get one instead of the 10k RPM drive.

I would change the 945 Phenom II to the 955, this is then easily turned into a 965 via your bios for free.

Given that you play some games but seem not hard core - do you really need the extra expensive mouse?

Are you planning to Overclock your machine? If not then the CPU cooler may be unecessary, though I assume you are getting it as it is quieter than the stock. Someone may be able to suggest a cheaper quiet cooler.

I would likely change the RAM to G SKill or Corsair.

Ideally you want an HD5850 card but if yuo are not a big gamer you may be able to get away with 5770...can the 5850 even fit in the micro case?

The case seems expensive, but I wouldn't know for sure as I do not touch Micro stuff at all - whatever the size, the weight is going to be similar as you still need the parts inside, a standard size case can be held and carried in two hands easily (not having to stretch your arms wide) so unless walking for 10 or so minutes to take it somewhere I see no need for micro stuff - but then that is personal opinion and I am a gamer so like a real case with a real mobo and plenty of airflow

how would another WD caviar black 500gb and gskill ripjaw 4gb sound instead of the velociraptor and geil ram?

the extra accessories like wifi and bluetooth are there because im not sure if ill be able to have internet hardwired or wireless in my appt room and bluetooth for syncing other devices (phone, laptop, etc).

i forgot to mention that im going to this from a core 2 duo 2ghz laptop with a geforce 8400. gaming on this laptop works alright for a select few games but im wanting something more powerful and prettier.

for an hd monitor, what would be suggested? (keep price in mind)
