Cmos battery not saving settings.

I am using a P5KR mobo. Tried changing CMOS jumper and clearing it. I tried changing the battery and somehow it still doesnt save the bios configuration. It worked for a few weeks though and then when a friend of mine touched the battery, it stopped saving the settings again..
Any advice on how to fix this issue?

Hi David, I have just posted my first question here and wonder if we have the same problem. When your system boots do you get this message:
Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting
CMOS Date/Time not set
Press F1 to run SETUP
F2 to load default values and continue
mine is a ASUS P5QSE motherboard
I will be interested to know if we have the same problem

Without going into details, I have found the cause of my problem - I had left a USB DiscStakker plugged in even though I removed the software to eliminate it as a possible cause. Once I unplugged the device, my problem disappeared,
