Try uninstalling all drivers, rebooting comp, then install all drivers up to ATI Catalyst 10.4. If that doesn't work, try benchmarking the cards 1 at a time. If all else fails, RMA it. Hopefully you still have warranty x-x.

It doesn't display crossfire in cc. Whats weird is it shows 3 displays yet im running 1 monitor. when I enable a second display I can then see my second gpu in overdrive. I can see temps as well change the settings, although it still wont activate but it does seem to change temps if i enable force maximum performance clocks so I don't think the second gpu is broken.

A 4870x2 is technically already in "crossfire". Therefore you will not get a "crossfirex tab" appearing in CCC.

If you disabled AI in CCC, this will effectively disable one GPU (although two GPUs will still show in CCC.

In CCC>graphics>information center>graphics hardware, you should have "primary adapter" and "linked adapter".

In CCC>ATI Overdrive>select GPU to configure, it should show 2 GPUz

As far as showing three monitors, one (primary) should be enabled (ie blue) while the others should be "greyed out". Why you have three displays is/was a mystery for me too when I was running this card.

Hope this helps.

I added some more information to the top of the page it shows it disabled. Yet when I extend for the second display it says enabled adapter for the second gpu.

Yet I only have 1 monitor lol.. so I am confused

Someone stated on another forum that each gpu is reading a different pci number x8 and x2 pci could that be the problem?/quote]

I don't think this is correct.

Both GPUs are on a single pcb so it can only be installed in a single PCIe slot.

Also, in 2D, only a single GPU will be used. In 3D, depending on the application, the 2nd GPU will be used.

As I mentioned previously :

A 4870x2 is technically already in "crossfire". Therefore you will not get a "crossfirex tab" appearing in CCC.

If the above checks out, then I don't think you should worry.

What he was thinking was the physical and logic address of each gpu. This is one of a few known problems with some X2 cards being unable to enable crossfire but either wise still functional. This is due to the pci-e switch and some time a rare short with in the pcp breaking the link between the two gpus. I suggest you try different drivers and if possible a different slot prior to RMA for a replacement. Crossfire has to be enabled in order to function, they are not like the 3dfx voodoo series ware sli was enabled regardless for the exception of a few cards.

You should be seeing both cores as individual display adapters. GPUz should show crossfire x as enabled. Crossfire will be enabled even in 2D mode but the second core won't do anything.

Make sure you have Catalyst AI set to standard or Advanced because disabling catalyst AI will disable crossfire.

Make sure CCC is reading the second core. If it doesn't read, you may have to RMA the card or flash the second core BIOS.
