USB security

Hey guys, I am wondering about USB security because i am at college and i have multiple USB's and although i do backup frequently it is a still a pain if i lose my precious hard work. Anyway my point is, if i lose my USB i want my files to be secure and by secure i mean absolutely impregnable. What i am asking about is if anyone knows any good pieces of software free or paid for, it doesn't matter. What i want is not to be able to format it (so it doesn't erase it), lock all files as a group (so every time i open a file i have to enter the password), and most importantly... Unless you have unlocked the USB you cannot put files on it. So basically if you don't know the password its useless, which hopefully means that if someone finds my USB they are more likely to hand it in or something... Sorry for the big paragraph but i would very, very much appreciate if you could help me out.
