PC Format have an interesting feature on the latest and greatest CPUs this month.

Their article considers all users, not just gamers. They ran a wide range of benchmarking tests to see what came out on top.

Now...although they recommend the Phenom X6 1055T...their tests show that the X4 965 performs better for gamers.

Does this sound right?

Ok so 6 cores vs 4 sounds better...but it seems it's not all about cores and size...

Thoughts?

More about : phenom 965 games 1055t

It's probably more about 4 cores @ 3.4Ghz and 6 cores @ 2.8Ghz.
Did they cover overclocking at all? That can swing things around if both CPUs end up running @ ~3.8Ghz.

Hmm cant decide what to do here...there's not a lot in the price

Do I get the 965 for the touch extra gaming grunt, or go for the 1055T to future proof and get the extra multi tasking ability...which I don't need a lot of?

I kinda wish there was a bigger difference in the price to make the decision for me.

Yeah been reading into the 955/965 THING

Seems like it used to be a better choice to go for the 955 and overclock it to a 965.

But now they've brought out the 125W 965s, it seems to be better to go straight for the 965.

Changes are that they are better binned and will overclock higher as well.
