About to buy a I7 930 for a Gaming build, what should I know?

Is there anything I need to know about this processor for Gaming purposes? Are there any processors that are better for gaming that are a better value? I really need to know before I buy it for a new gaming build. thanks.

  1. from intels camp consider 760/750 quad is useful for the future with 9xx you've got quad and hyperthreading, some tests have shown HT lowers performance but they may have worked around that by now. 760/750 might give you a cheaper platform, and therefore free up some budget for GPU, which if you are gaming is key.

how is a 760/750 more useful for the future than a 930? What is 9xx?
  3. he means the 9 series: eg- i7 930/ i7 960, ect...
i would push the most amount of money into a CPU(The 930 in this case) and then later buy a better GPU, as the GPU is more important for gaming, but the i7 would last you longer...
this is the best salution for your needs...
  4. What is your overall budget?

  5. For gaming now, then 750/60 and better gpu, for gaming in the future 930 and poorer GPU now, better gpu later. Personally i'd go for better gaming now.

Was suggesting that the higher i5's i.e. the quads in general would become more useful in the future, vs the lower i5's which are duals with hyper threading.
