I purchased a NEC ND-3520A DVD player for my Dell Pentium PC and although
the DVD plays fine in VLC Media Player, I can't get it to play in WMP9.
Also, the DVD plays fine in CyberLink PowerDVD 6.
I thought these software DVD players would install the codecs needed by
WMP9.

It certainly should do. Did you try reinstalling PowerDVD? Or updating to
WMP10?

I would honestly say you are better off playing the DVD in one of those
applications or WinDVD then playing it in WMP. I never liked how WMP played
DVDs.

Thanks - probably will.
When I double-click on the Icon in My Computer, WMP opens and it lists the
DVD title and Chapters, but I get an error 0XC00D1163 - problem with
digital copyright protection. Of course, this plays with VLC media player
and on my Mom's DVD-ROM.
Grrrrr

I had some issues with the Compaq image that is used on their
computers. I can't remember if it was playing DVD's or trying to
record onto them. In any event, I reinstalled WMP and it worked fine
after that.
Now, I have not been following this thread, so reinstallation probably
was already covered. But if not, have you reinstalled that software?

I reinstalled WMP10 and there is some progress getting DVDs to play. One
File->Open, it now lists the .IFO and .VOB files under the Media Files
setting. It did not do that earlier. When I select VIDEO_TS.VOB, it
shows the DVD menu. So far, so good.
Unfortunately, when I select any Menu option from the DVD, I get WMP's
dreaded "has encountered a problem" error box. This is the accompanying
..txt file it created, if anyone can help:
