Is my Processor causing bad 3DMark06 results?

This is possibly the wrong area so sorry about that :P.

After running the Basic version of 3DMark06, I was surprised at the result of only 9987 points, when I was actually expecting just over double that.

SPECS
=====

AMD Phenom 9500 OC'd to 2.4gHz (yes it's a piece of crap)
Rest of the specs in my Sig (ignore the Phenom II, it's currently in my other PC)
Running Windows 7 Ultimate (x64)
Also minus 4gigs of RAM because I had to get it RMA'd

I'm pretty sure it is my Processor, just wanted to double check it.

  1. Yes, your CPU is bottlenecking your GTX295 ALOT!
  2. Sorry if this is the wrong area, the question sort of spans between this and graphics

After running the Basic version of 3DMark06, I was surprised at the result of only 9987 points, when I was actually expecting just over double that. After doing some digging on Bottlenecks, I was pretty sure about my Processor being the problem, but I've started to think something else might be causing it.

  3. Heh, I thought so, got an average of 1, yes 1 FPS on the CPU test!!
  4. Ofcourse it's your CPU bottlenecking the system. That processor is ancient.
  5. I hate that test, my Core i7 920 @ 4.4Ghz only hits 5 FPS and thats only for a second XD, Most of the test its between 2-4 FPS

I think you should put your phenom II X4 back in and overclock it to 4Ghz+ and you'll get 20K easy.
  6. I wouldn't say its ancient, but it is a poor performer. I agree its a CPU issue. The 9500 is bad.
  7. At your member spec you have XFX nVidia GTX 295. How many 3dmarks did you get with that other CPU?
And yes, it might be the CPU but that number is still kind of low for that card.

3D is CPU bound and as such will give a low score if a slow CPU is used with a powerful card so it's a bit daft to say the score is a bit low for that card when at the moment the score is being dictated by the CPU not the GPU.
