There are many different types of P4 processors and not all of them are compatible with your Compaq. Do you have the model number of the 2.8Ghz processor you installed?

hi,
the compaq evo d510 SFF has compaq motherboard ( i cant find the modelname) but definitely for this model of compaq with 2.4 ghz 512/ 533 parts no: SL6RZ

the other processor of the other one that i installed is pentium 4 2.8ghz 1M/533 parts no: SL7K9 and motherbord of D845EPI/D845GVR

Can you please help me to figure this out and it is possible to switch this processor? Im just trying to use the compaq with faster processor..Thank you so much

From what I can dig up on your system, it does not support P4 processors with 1MB of L2 cache, it only supports P4s with 256kb or 512kb of L2 cache. This situation is very common with many older P4 desktop systems.

The bottom line is that I don't believe you will be able to use the 2.8GHZ P4 you have in your Compaq.

EDIT: Good info for your system at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11349_na/...
