APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: This week, tonight if possible

BUDGET RANGE: <$700 After Rebates

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers. I have a monitor which I can keep for now (nothing fancy at all), but if a new one will fit in the budget, all the better.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Any, but most newegg.com seems best

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: None

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe

CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Whatever

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I am by no means a tech guru, but I know a lot more than the average joe. I have upgraded a few comps, but this will be my first new build. I have OC'ed in the past, but don't see the need to on this comp right away. I would like to be able to play games like Dragon Age as well as online games like WOW.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Banthracis:

I took a look and that seems to be great. Two questions:

Is the mobo appropriate for me as I will not likely be tweeking too much?

Is the Video card appropriate for my needs?

If any money can be saved on those two I wonder if there is room for a monitor. However, I take the advice offered, so just let me know.

Thanks!

EDIT: What I mean by "whatever" for resolution is that I dont care too much.

Well it helps if you tell us the resolution of your current monitor.

If you want a xfire board, then you're not gonna save much on the Mobo, maybe $20 most.

GPU depending on res can be dropped to a 5770, but that's $50 in savings. Still not enough for a 1080p monitor. $150 at cheapest.

Sorry about that. Suffice it to say that my current monitor is a POS from about 5 years ago. It cannot come close to HD. I am at my office right now so can't look into it further, but I know it was from Dell...

I might be building a comp within the next two months, so obviously I am stoked. I have been going through newegg to create a good one for the past 3-4 days, all of my spare time. I would recommend the build on my thread, which comes to around 600 w/o OS. I would also recommend you invest in filling in the open fan slots on this case.

Good savings, good items. If you don't like anything say so and I'll do some searching around for you.

I took your build with a minor modification for combo's/rebates. Please let me know if this looks like a good build. Also, I am trying to get the wife to open the purse strings for a new monitor. I have a Dell E153PFT (15" LCD with amx res of 1024 x 786), which is junk. Any suggestions for under $200 (as low as possible).

Anyway, here is the build:

GPU: GIGABYTE 1GD Radeon HD 5830 $199.99

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) $104.99

PSU/HD Combo:

OCZ Fatal1ty 550W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Ready 80
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 500GB $99.98

Mobo/CPU Combo:

GIGABYTE GA-790XTA-UD4 AM3 AMD 790X
AMD Athlon II X3 440 Rana 3.0GHz $197.98

OS/Case Combo:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Antec Two Hundred(v2) Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $134.98

Total: $737.92
