Optical drive repair help

Help,
I have an optical drive that :
Tray closes normally then Laser lights & motor spins for a second or so than the laser goes out and the motor stops.
Does anyone know what might be wrong with this drive?

Power or laser problem,

you can't really open them for repairs, you are much better doing what ram said: buy a new one unless it's still under warranty.

Just so you understand this drive is in an Xbox and a replacement costs around $100. Repair parts ie; laser and drive motor are available pretty cheap. I don't mind attempting to repairing the drive. I was just hoping for an answer to my question from someone that knows something about optical drive trouble shooting and repair.

you could try to repair if you want and got the knowledge to do it but there will be no warranty as it will be repair by a computer shop,one thing also we all do this on a voluntary and give answer for our experience and knowledge.

They do not cost $100, an entire xbox doesn't cost $100. In fact I threw one out last week.

Excuse me, I didn't mention that it was an XBox 360 slim.
No thanks to anyone here I will post the solution just in case someone actually cares. I replaced the laser assembly, it costs around $8 and fixed the problem.
