Transfering hd video

Hello,
My motherboard has no firewire capability.My
sony camcorder hdr-hc7 requires firewire connection to transfer hd video,can this be done by using external drive w/firewire then transfer
hd video by usb2 or3 to my computer ssd?

I don't think that will work. You can always add a cheap firewire controller to your computer.

Hawkeye22 is right. An external drive connected to the camera after the fact will not help. As an owner of an HDR-HC1 I can back Hawkeye22 up and say that a firewire capture card is your best option.
