AMD Phenom II X4 965 variable clock speed

Hey guys, I was wondering, are Phenom II's clock speeds designed to be variable? I have disabled C1E and am not doing any overclocking. I have no experience with AMD CPUs, this is in my mom's computer.

By variable I mean going from 3.4Ghz to 789mhz and back along the spectrum.

Help is appreciated, and if there is any way to fix it I'd like to know.

    Hello guardianangel42;

    It sounds like AMD's Cool and Quiet power saving mode in action.
    Does your BIOS give you options for both C1E and Cool and Quiet?
  2. I'l double check. I think it was the power settings in Windows too though, as it was set to balanced.
  3. Yup, Cool and Quiet was enabled. Thanks WR2.

    This is perfectly normal behaviour by the way.
