I have a phenom 2 x3720 BE unlocked CPU and OC to 3.5 GHZ and running stable for 1.5 years now.
is there a better cpu I can get that will give me more performance than what I have now.
mother board is a asus m4a89gtdpro/usb3 I had this cpu on another board before this 1.

Solution

I agree. If I am really enthusiastic though, I'll spend up to $200 on a cpu. But it has to really impress me for the price. Same goes for graphics cards.
Of course there is but it also depends on your tasks. For example, video editing would benefit heavily from a new CPU but gaming, with the exception of a couple games, would show no improvement at all.
It also depends on the rest of your system specs. It might not be your CPU holding you back in the yet to mentioned tasks to intend to run.

will bulldozer be a am3 socket?

Ummmm.... That is quite hard to tell. Very little is known about it. Only some architecture details hae been out. Also its said that it will be on the AM3r2 (AM3+) platform. Cant comment on the backward compatibility now. It will take some time for it go come out.

If you dont want a complete overhaul of the system, then i think that you can change the CPU now and it will still be quite good in a year and save a little, check SB and Bulldozer benchmarks and reviews and price drops and upgrade to the complete new rig.

No. Last I heard, AM3+ so a new motherboard will be in order.

What is my 4 th core unlocked x3 720 equal to I kicks the shi* out of all the AMD cpu's excpt the 6 core. it's over clocked to 3.5 GHZ and running 4 cores.
If you have unlocked the core and it is stable, there is no use upgrading. You might be able to overclock a 955 or 965 to 3.8-4GHz but is it worth it? The performance increase would be minimal.

The only viable upgrade would be a 6-core 1055t, and all that would benefit that I see is your video encoding, realplayer and winrar. Ask yourself, do I really want a marginal performance increase for $200? unless you can sell your x3 to compensate. The upgrade might be worth it depending on how much you video encode etc.

i think the best cpu for you would be AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
I disagree. He obviously overclocks so the higher clockspeed would be useless to him since everything I have seen has shown both 1055 and 1090 to overclock the same. the 1055 is a full $100 less and will perform the same as an overclocked 1090 once you overclock the 1055.

I was told the 1055 t will go to 4 GHZ.

Or apparently more if you get really lucky.

I will wait for the 6 core price drop to 1130/150 then it will be worth it.

What currency is that in? The last time I saw a number/another number representing a price was in the 1800s and it involved pounds, shillings and pence.
