I think the GTX580 can only use two of the three outputs at the same time.
The GTX6xx cards can use all three.

But, if you add a cheap graphics card, for the side monitors, then the main gaming monitor can get all of the GTX580 resources.

wouldn't that require a second gtx 580 or can i get away with some cheap thing like a gtx 550ti? and i'd probably need to get a bigger power supply because i have a 750 watt corsair right now and my gpu and cpu are both overclocked

No need for a second GTX580, and the requisite 900w psu.

You could use a <$30 nvidia card like a gf 210 for any non gaming displays.
If you do not have a second X16 slot, there are cards for pci and x1/x4 slots.

Your psu is fine, a low power card will add little.

maybe something like this will do the job http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130788
and i just got a z77 asrock extreme4 from newegg because they were giving away 40 bucks worth of 8gb ram that im going to sell on ebay and i can sell my current asrock z77 pro3 with only 1 pci x16 slot
  7. just incase i dont go with the 3rd monitor and a low profile gaming card for the 2 side screens, would you rather have 1 hdd+ 1 ssd or 2x ssd if money isnt an issue? i dont really use more than 100gb storage
  8. If you don't use more than 100gb of storage (which is amazing that you don't) then of course SSDs all the way. It's all about the speed. Anyways, SSDs are much cheaper now, so you can upgrade in 2 years if you need something else.

Although I do like the idea of 3 monitors. I have one but may buy a second cheap monitor for fun, and use a separate GPU to run it.

If you use only 100gb of storage, I would go with must one 180gb ssd. Keep it simple.
As it turns out, that is exactly what I have.
