Long story short I need to buy a new processor for a motherboard noted here http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERB...06254Rmv.shtml and my computer specs are http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/10...5003Rsp3.shtml .

The original processor (phenom 9500) had a 95w power draw. The one i am looking into purchasing is a Athlon II X2 255 3.1GHz requiring only 65 watt draw (the motherboard info provided by gateway notes a 89 watt draw max). If I can get any advice on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Although AMD was nice and made AM3 processors backward compatible with AM2+, there is still need for a BIOS update on the motherboard to support newer processors. Most OEM system builders like Dell/HP/Compaq/Acer/etc lock the BIOS to prevent overclocking, and usually don't offer a new BIOS with updated support for newer processors. What this means is your board is probably limited to AM2/AM2+ processors only, but no one can confirm it until we actually have more information on your computer.
