New build around 500. Thoughts?

AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.9GHz - $100
Asus M4A79XTD EVO Socket AM3 790X ATX Motherboard - $115
OCZ Technology Gold Series XTC Cooler 4GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10666) Dual Channel - $100
Antec Three Hundred ATX Mid Tower - 50$
OCZ Technology StealthXStream 500 Watt ATX Power Supply - $45
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB - $51
Samsung OEM DVD Burner - 25$
My old Nvidia 8800 GT

Total: $486 + tax = $515 ish

... and maybe a few fans. I wanted to build it so he could upgrade to a better CPU/RAM/Video Card down the road. Hopefully AMD keeps this socket for a while.

What do you think? Suggestions?

  1. I've heard some less than great things about the current OCZ DDR3 RAM.. the other stuff (although I'm bad with AMD) looks good. You could change your hd to a Samsung F3 but that's about it.
  2. Change the RAM to G Skill Ripjaw CL7 1600mhz. It sells for $104.99, so almost same price but is faster and lower latency
  3. Agreed : OCZ DDR3 these days does not inspire much confidence tbh and $100 u could nab better ones really! Btw $115 is overpriced for a previous gen 8/8 700 series when $90 these days nabs ya a juicy 8/8 with USB/SATA III 800 series hehe

Negative on StealthXStream as well : ain't 80+ certified and look for its ModXtreme 500 cousin with DVDRW SATA combo like this one:
