Would I be better off switching out the mobo for an i5 compatible one or sticking with the i7? and the only reason I got a 1000w psu is because I used one of those online calculators to determine how much energy the computer would be putting out it said around 850 so I just figured the 1000 would suffice. Why would you get a ssd over the hdd just curious? Thanks for the input

ATM a AMD system IMO would be the best way to go for a gaming rig. whats your TVs max rez ? it might be better to just go with a GTX 480 or HD 5970 over xfire or sli but if your TV is only 1920x1080 a HD 5870 or GTX 480 will be fine. A SSD will be 10X faster then a HDD it will helps with load times of the OS and maps in games you would is use a HDD for a storage driver .

Ah I see ok I'm not too sure on my tv's max rez to be honest I would have to look into it it is a couple years old. I will look into the gtx 480 and the hd 5970. I mean I will probably use a monitor in the future but for the time being my tv is gonna have to suffice.

OK sweet thanks for the info I will look into those. I'm pretty sure I am gonna go with the i7 then. And I think you guys have talked me into the ssd and I will look at the samsung for the hdd. Can anyone give me some ideas on ram? I like corsair but am open to others. To be honest I don't know a lot about ram brands.

Also just curious how big of an ssd would you get. I don't want to overdo it if I am also gonna buy a hdd for storage. or do I even need an hdd for storage? Would just an ssd be enough or would I just install games on the ssd and operating system and everything else on hdd?

maybe something like this

niklas do you think my dual 5870 hd is overkill? I made some changes based on the info you guys gave me and got priced to about 2400 bucks lol but thats mainly because of the extra video card

Also when all is said and done and I order all the stuff for my comp do I need to buy any extra cableing or does everything I need come with everything I order? I'm mainly talking about power cable cables to connect hard drive to motherboard those sort of things

You might need a icy dock for the SSD drive 20 bucks i think, also some thermal pate for the HSF other then that you should be good.

Now on the Xfire 2 HD 5870 IMO on a rez of 1920 x 1080 and ( We still dont know your TVs max rez ) a single HD 5870 will be enough GPU power to even run the most demanding game out at max settings.

You could get a GTX 480 that is 100 bucks more and a bit faster then the HD 5870 in some games

Your going to pay about 800 bucks for 2 HD 5780s you might as well get the HD 5970 at 700 bucks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102887

Then you wont have scaling problem in some games you might have with xfire, the HD 5970 is like 2 GPU on one card. also with 2 HD 5870 in xfire say you get 45 FPS in your best game, just because you have 2 HD 5870 dont mean you will see 90 FPS in that game.

read up on the reviews of GPUs http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/285845-33-geforce-radeon-5000-series-reviews

gl :)

I also like to add that with vsync on you wont see any more FPS in games then your monitors refresh rate, and that the eye can only see so much. Just think of FPS like thos books you flip the pages and the faster you flip the pages it makes the stick figures move. IMO a GPU that will do 60 FPS with max setting at your monitors rez is gold ( JUST DONT BASE ) it on one game like crysis, less thats your game.

Well thats a good point maybe I'll just look into the 5970 then I guess if that every gets to slacking I can always add another video card at a later time since the mobo has slots for more and is crossfire capable. Even though I doubt that gpu will become obsolete anytime soon. I will look into the icy dock also to see if I need one. I think I'm gonna be spending about 2400 bucks on this build. Too much you think for a good decent computer?

Do i think its to much ? I think if its your hobbie and its what you like to do and if it dont get in the way of RL stuff like feeding the kids or paying pays and if you are ok with spending that much on yourself then by all means go for it.

people spend 2K on golf Irons then the poor guy has to go walk after his ball LOL :)
