Amd athlon 64 3200+ mobo swap

I currently have an eMachines AMD athlon 64 3200+, 2.3GHz with 1.5GB of ram

I'm planning on upgrading my mobo and I just wanted to know if it was worth doing and if so, which ones would you recommend?

The main reason why I want to upgrade is the high cost of original DDR1 ram ($100+ for a 2GB stick). I wanted to get at least 4GB of ram (2GBx2) which is the max I could get with my two DDR slots.

I also just recently purchased a Nvidia geforce gtx 550ti and I want to take advantage of this card as much as possible.

I figured if i just swapped out my mobo with some DDR2 or DDR3 ram it would be a better use of my $.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated!

Is this a socket 939 or earlier board? In that case there are no boards that support DDR2 or 3 for your CPU.

i believe it is a socket 939. so is what you're saying that i'm pretty much stuck with DDR1?

My advice is to buy a new mobo, cpu and ram. That mobo and especially the cpu (single core -eek!) are well past it I'm afraid.

What's your budget?

With your current CPU, yes. Unles you will buy a new CPU+Mobo+Memory
