I have a Gateway E-6500D

I removed the stock 1 gig Kingston DDR2-SDRAM PC2-4300(266 MHZ) DDR2-533

to replace it with...

Patriot Signature DDR2 PC2-5300 (667 MHz) 512 mb (4 sticks 2/channel since it is dual channel)

When I insert all four modules (with all connections unplugged) I power on the computer and hear 2 beeps and no video appears, I pull the vga cable from the Graphic Card and plug it into onboard video to see if I can get a signal.. Nothing.

I unplug everything and pull all the modules except one.. I reboot, system detects the memory has decreased and I boot into XP. I power off, insert another module, reboot, and I hear 2 beeps, no video, no success.

Any help would be appreciated.

SPECS:

-Intel® 945G chipset with ICH7R and 800 MHz FSB

-Pentium D 830 (3.0 GHz 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)

Four memory slots supporting the following:

240-pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMMs)
DDR2 667, DDR2 533, or DDR2 400 MHz DIMMs
Memory capacity up to 4 GB total memory

-Nvidia GeForce 9600gt, PCI-e
-Dual Boot: Microsoft Windows XP Sp3 & Linux Kubuntu 10.10

Sounds like a bad DIMM, or perhaps just a BIOS adjustment is needed. Test all of your RAM sticks in the following manner:

| = Occupied
_ = unoccupied

Stick 1
1. | _ _ _
2. _ | _ _
3. _ _ | _
4. _ _ _ |

Repeat with all four sticks. Come back with your observations.
