Gaming DVD Drive Requirements

I don't plan to get a Blu Ray drive anytime soon. Would that be a problem with gaming? I haven't built a rig in years and may possibly get into gaming. I just want to be prepared down the line. Also anyone has recommendations of a drive or read speeds? Hmm I'm thinking people download games these days and not run it on a drive? Please educate me I'm so outdated. I've been programming all these years and lost touch with the hardware scene. Thanks.

I have yet to see a PC game on blueray, all you need is a DVD drive for now. It is also possible to get and download most games online through programs like steam so no disk is even needed to play.
