1x4GB + 1x2GB ??

Hey guys so right now I'm planning on building a new pc, right now i came up with;
phenom II x4 965
either one of these motherboards (haven't decided which ones better first);

So I was wondering, can I install 1x4GB + 1x2GB into a system like this?

Your probably going to have issues there,
not least of which is the dual channel benefit,
youll either not get the boost, or it will confuse things so badly you get bsod's especially if the sticks are different speeds/timings
I'd also save a few quid and get the 955be over the 965

Really? What would you recommend then? =/
Should I stay with 4gbs or what other options do I have?

What about 3x 2GB? Would that work? What rams would you recommend?

If its a dual channel mobo, 2x2Gb is your baseline, if its a triplechannel, 3x2Gb,
gskill are a reliable make, but see what newegg has on offer as they change daily

You want 2x2GB or 2x4GB, period.

3x2GB or 3x4GB is meant for Intel X58 systems.
