How do i recover deleted files?

Hi guys, i had a virus on my computer that wouldn't even let me turn it on so i just re-formatted the hard drive but i lost all my valuable files!! :( is there a way to get them back? please anyone! :(

  1. Once you reformatted. no.

    If you had files you cared about, you should have had external backup to cover situations like this.

    There are forensic data recovery companies that might be able to recover data, but they will be very expensive.
    If you think you might use their service, stop using your pc so as to not contaminate any more traces.

    But the wiser and simpler choice would have been to take out the hard drive and access it from another computer. The either copy off the files or disinfect the virus.

    Actually there is plenty of software out there that should in essence and in theory allow one to regain those files - I use Zero Assumption Recovery.

    Next time boot with a Linux ISO CD to backup the files and then run some sort of AV against those files prior to installing the infected HDD into a working system.

    I'm surprised the virus did not kill his BIOS like in the days far far gone!
