Two Better than One?

I have 600-700 dollars to spend on VGA / VGA's

Do I got with 1 5970 or...
two performance cards crossfired? 5850 or 5830 x 2 ?

My fuzzy logic...

5970 - $719 bucks...
The SAME SINGLE 725 core clock
3200 stream processes (actually 1600 x 2)

5850 - $619.98 ($309.99x 2)
TWO 725mhz Core Clocks working in tandem
2880 stream processes (1440 x 2)

5830 - $479.98 ($239.99x 2)
800mhz core clock
2240 stream processes (1120x 2)
(this sure seems like the obvious choice bang for your buck)

Timop validate your performance issue with 5830's, link slap me and I will close this out.
From what I have seen dual 5830's do quite well.

470 SLI (675/478) wins by 9% / 19% over twin 5850's ..... 17% / 23 % over 5970
5850 XFire (617/418) wins by 7 % / 8% over 5970

Using your $$

470 x 2 = $700 / (478 min frame rate / 7 benches) = $10.25 per averaged min. fps
5850 x 2 = $620 / (418 min frame rate / 7 benches) = $10.38 per averaged min. fps
5970 = $719 / (388 min frame rate / 7 benches) = $12.97 per averaged min. fps

Given the above, and excluding the 5830, sems a relative tossup between the twin 5850's and 470's. Of course your play repetoire may not be representative of the benchies used in the article .... no 5830 tested in said article so can't help you there.
